Ok, the food vacuum bags sealed well and I checked them this morning and the vacuum seems to be holding.

    Awesome!! Woohoo.

Got to try this myself the next time we pack up some. It looks like it takes longer, but I think this technique is well worth the effort. Having less air in the bag has GOT to be better for the food in a long term situation.

Ya, I was pretty impressed with the idea when it came to me. I had one of those “eureka” moments. It was your suggestion that I check them again though. That’s why I made this video.
I also liked the camera you bought so I got one too. You’ve got a lot of good ideas.

I’m sold! Nice coverage of the experiment. And thanks for putting it out for us!

Do you have a place to buy the mylar bags?

I wonder since mylar is hard to vacuum the air out
that if you have the foodsaver with the Tube for canisters what if you just iron the bag closed, then cut a small corner and push the tube into the bag, Then clamp your hand around bag+tube to seal it best you can and vacuum out the air..
When the bag is vacuumed as much as possible run the Iron over the bag to make a final seal, Done iron the tube. Once closed..remove tube and iron completely.
Should work. Ill try it myself this week.
